The Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers (CHWC) Radiation Oncology Center consistently receives a 99% patient satisfaction rating. Offering a local alternative to cancer treatment, our facility is nationally accredited through the American College of Radiology (ACR). ACR accreditation requires a successful comprehensive assessment of the Radiation Oncology Center’s personnel, equipment, treatment planning, treatment records, patient-safety policies and quality control/quality assessment activities.
Serving patients from Williams, Defiance, Henry, Fulton and Paulding counties in Ohio, as well as neighboring counties in Michigan and Indiana, our Radiation Oncology Center offers a personalized approach to cancer care. All team members are made available to each patient as needed or requested.
The CHWC radiation oncology team consists of radiation oncologist Dr. Wainwright Jaggernauth, oncology-certified nurses, radiation therapists, cancer navigators, social workers, dietitians and speech therapists.
Our facility features state-of-the-art equipment and software, offering advanced technology that is equal to or better than other centers in the area.
Treatment modalities include intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) and prone breast treatment.
Radiation Services
Stereotactic Body Radiation Therapy
Deemed one of the biggest advancements in radiation oncology over the last decade, SBRT is now available at our Radiation Oncology Center. SBRT involves delivering a higher dose of radiation for a shorter amount of time: whereas patients normally come in for about 30 treatments, SBRT candidates could expect 3–5 treatments total. For the appropriate candidates, SBRT sees major patient benefit and very minor side effects. The best candidates for this procedure are patients with small, well-defined tumors who cannot tolerate surgery. For some patients, SBRT may be able to replace surgery as a primary cancer treatment.
Image-Guided Radiation Therapy
The process of IGRT involves obtaining radiographic images of the patient’s tumor site each day, then comparing these images to those acquired in the treatment planning process. The process ensures accurate placement of the treatment fields on a daily basis. With IGRT, more powerful doses of radiation can be concentrated on the tumor itself while protecting the surrounding healthy tissue. Patients benefit from this method with faster and safer treatments, greater comfort and the potential for better outcomes.
Prone Breast Treatment
Prone breast radiation therapy is a unique approach to treating breast cancer. Radiation is administered on a specially-designed table to help a woman lay comfortably in the prone position, on her stomach, which allows the breast to fall away from the body. This helps to better isolate the area for treatment. With the breast away from the body, radiation exposure to the surrounding organs and tissues, lowering the risk of complications such as future heart disease and lung damage.
The CHWC Radiation Oncology Center accepts many referrals from medical oncologists in the multi-county area, and accepts patients who would like to self-refer.
